Vyhnání z ráje / Expulsion from Paradise. 2001.
CZ. Dovolená u moře. Na pláži filozofují po prohýřené noci doktor Rosťa s přítelem Petrem o podstatě člověka. Jejich vzrušenou debatu o tom, zda je člověk Bůh nebo Ďábel, přeruší vpád naháče z vedlejší nudistické pláže Paradiso. Muž zoufale hledá lékaře, protože jeho malý syn asi snědl něco, co neměl. Nyní však vychází najevo, že dosavadní příběh byla fikce a že doktor je současně i režisér jakéhosi experimentálního dokumentu. Smyslem filmu je analyzovat, čím se nahý člověk liší od opice. "Materiálem" k tomuto bádání jsou dobrovolníci, nudisté, které zlákaly peníze, zvědavost nebo touha po exhibici. Ti však nejsou o podstatě experimentu pravdivě informováni, aby se v situacích, které jim filmový štáb nastraží, chovali co nejpřirozeněji. Celý projekt financuje zbohatlický ruský producent Igor. Naivně věří, že se mu podaří potlačit filozofické ambice tvůrců a na lascivní komedii o naháčích pak slušně vydělá. Kromě toho chce mít ze své rozmazlené dcery Lenky herečku. Natáčení provází řada konfliktů, vztahy mezi protagonisty se vyhrocují, ponižovaní nudisté se bouří a za režisérem přijede nečekaně manželka, známá hvězda, řešit i s dětmi rodinné problémy. Situace na pláži Paradiso spěje nevyhnutelně k dramatickému konci.
Režisérka Věra Chytilová se opět po hořké komedii PASTI, PASTI, PASTIČKY vrací ke svému zásadnímu celoživotnímu tématu - morálce, svobodě, hledání smyslu existence. Princip "filmu ve filmu" umožňuje nahlédnout téma z různých úhlů a v několika významových rovinách. "Náš příběh hledá odpověď na to, jestli člověk dokáže být šťasten, když k tomu má možnost. Zda není zahlcen malichernostmi a dovede se dívat na život z ptačí perspektivy. Nahota je ve filmu chápána obrazně jako určitý druh osvobození. Nedovoluje nic předstírat, zbavuje nás předsudků. Ten příběh ale není o nahotě, ale o lidské hlouposti a nepoučitelnosti," míní režisérka. Spoluautor scénáře a představitel hlavní role Bolek Polívka říká:"Vyhnání z ráje je také o manipulaci a tvůrčím šílenství. Náš film - to jsou drobná pozorování lidského chování, která mají svůj patos i svoji velikost. Pojednává o lidských citech, vášních a vztazích, i o temné primitivní stránce naší přirozenosti."
Věra Chytilová chtěla natočit podobenství o tom, jak filmaři natáčejí podobenství, o nahotě jako základu přirozenosti, o nahotě jako rajském stavu odkazujícím až něm k Adamu a Evě. A také o tvůrčí posedlosti, která nevnímá hrozící důsledky. Ale vyšla jí pitvorná skrumáž po sobě se válejících naháčů, jednou s postavami dobře rostlými, jindy s těly obézními, ochablými, s nestvůrně vyvalenými břichy.
EN. The uncompromising director Vera Chytilova, well-known for her harshly mocking attacks on people's failings and foibles, has created a new filmic parable on human weakness with Vyhnani z raje (Expulsion from Paradise, 2001), her most recent film. Although fully within the Chytilova tradition of biting moral fable, the film has had a lukewarm reception from Czech and international critics.
Nothing seems to go right for Rosta, a film director who is shooting a movie called "Paradiso" at a nudist beach. Rosta finds trouble in paradise from day one as he continually clashes with the crew, actors, and his wife.

Weiße Kreide für Franziska. 1989.
DE. Franziska (Manja Lucke) ist ein aufgewecktes Mädchen, das schon sehnsüchtig auf ihre Einschulung wartet. Wenige Wochen, bevor das große Ereignis stattfinden soll, erfahren sie und ihre Eltern, dass Franziska aus gesundheitlichen Gründen (schwere Hörstörungen) die Schule vorerst nicht besuchen kann. Die Handlung des Films schildert im weiteren, wie Franziska unter diesen Umständen in ihrem jungen Leben zurechtkommt und wie Eltern und Freunde ihr in dieser schwierigen Situation helfen, ihre Krankheit zu akzeptieren.
Und dazu hat Franziska ja auch einen “Leidensgenossen”: das ist Kaiser Franz, ein junger Storch, der beim Versuch zu fliegen abstürzte. Zusammen mit Opa Gruhn (Günter Naumann) kümmert sie sich rührend um das Tier, weil es nun nicht mit den anderen nach Afrika fliegen kann.
EN. Franziska (Manja Lucke) is a bright girl who is eagerly awaiting her school enrollment. A few weeks before the big event is to take place, she and her parents learn that Franziska can not attend school for health reasons (severe hearing impairment) for the time being. The plot of the film also describes how Franziska can cope with her young life under these circumstances and how her parents and friends help her to accept her illness in this difficult situation.
And Franziska also has a "fellow sufferer": that is Emperor Franz, a young stork who crashed while trying to fly. Together with Grandpa Gruhn (Günter Naumann), she takes care of the animal because it can not fly to Africa with the others.

DE. Wenn süß das Mondlicht auf den Hügeln schläft ist ein deutscher Spielfilm von Wolfgang Liebeneiner aus dem Jahr 1969. Als Vorlage diente der gleichnamige Roman des britischen Autors Eric Malpass. Er setzt die erste Romanverfilmung Morgens um sieben ist die Welt noch in Ordnung von Kurt Hoffmann über das Leben der Familie Pentecost fort. Fünf weitere Werke aus derselben Romanreihe blieben unverfilmt.
Der Fortsetzungsfilm nach dem Erfolg von "Morgens um sieben ist die Welt noch in Ordnung" (1968) entstand ebenfalls nach einem "Gaylord-Roman" von Eric Malpass: Wieder stehen die Großfamilie Pentecost und der kleine Sohn Gaylord im Mittelpunkt. Diesmal ziehen die Kinder von Mays Bruder in das Haus der Pentecosts – das hat Folgen für den prinzipiell stets leicht bedrohten Familienfrieden. Besonders Gaylord leidet unter dem ungewollten Familienbesuch und der Unruhe, die vor allem durch die Nervensäge Emma erzeugt wird.

Wild beasts - Belve feroci. 1984.
Dangerous zoo animals escape from their cages and run amok in the city after drinking water contaminated by PCP (a hallucinogenic drug also known as angel dust, busy bee, peace powder, zombie dust and jet fuel).
The bloody death and destruction on offer includes stampeding cattle running down pedestrians, rats devouring a couple having sex in a car, a woman's head stomped by an elephant, a seeing-eye dog savaging his master (he didn't see that coming!), and a savage polar bear attack on a bunch of kids (who, having drunk some PCP themselves, also become killers!).

Yaaba / Grandmother. 1989.
Yaaba is a 1989 Burkinabé drama film written, produced, and directed by Idrissa Ouedraogo. It won the Sakura Gold prize at the 1989 Tokyo Film Festival. The film was selected as the Burkinabé entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 62nd Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
The film was the subject of a short documentary Parlons Grand-mère, which was shot during the film's production by Djibril Diop Mambéty.
In a small African village, Bila (Noufou Ouédraogo), a ten-year-old boy, makes friends with an old woman called Sana (Fatimata Sanga), who has been accused of witchcraft by her village, and has become a social outcast. Only Bila is respectful of her, and calls her "Yaaba" (Grandmother).
When Bila's cousin, Nopoko (Roukietou Barry), falls ill, a medicine man insists that Sana has stolen the girl's soul. Sana undergoes a long and gruelling but ultimately successful journey to find a medicine to save Nopoko's life, but is still treated as a witch.
After Sana dies, the real reason why she is hated in the village is uncovered, but the love and wisdom she invested in Bila and Nopoko lives on.

Fiorile / Wild Flower. 1993.
Fiorile is a 1993 Italian drama film about a family curse caused by greed. The film was directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, and stars Claudio Bigagli, Galatea Ranzi, and Michael Vartan. It was entered into the 1993 Cannes Film Festival.
The title Fiorile allegedly is derived from the month of Floréal (April–May) in the French Republican Calendar. The film is also known as Wild Flower.
While travelling to visit their grandfather in Tuscany, two children are told the story of a family curse that has lasted two hundred years. During Napoleon's Italian invasion, Elisabetta Benedetti fell in love with French soldier Jean but while he was distracted by her, Elisabetta's brother Corrado unintentionally stole the regiment's gold that Jean was guarding, causing Jean's death by firing squad and set the curse in train. The Benedettis become wealthy, corrupt and hated by their former friends, who rename them the Maledetti, the cursed (Benedetti means 'blessed'). The children's grandfather Massimo Benedetti is the last man to be directly affected by the curse but will he pass it onto them?

"Amazon: The Wayana Indians" is the third of three documentaries featuring French filmmaker Charles Herve-Gruyer and a group of young French students sailing the Atlantic in search of The Wayanas Indians. After months of grueling sailing aboard the ship ”Fleur de Lampaul”, the troupe finally arrive in the jungle of the French Guiana. This time the camera focuses on two of the students, brothers, as they live and learn the life of the Wayanas in the Amazon jungle. For one month they will eat, sleep, bathe, and hunt as the tribe has been doing for centuries.

Immoralita, L' / Cock Crows at Eleven. 1978.
Federico is a child-killer running from the law. Wounded, he is taken in by a 12 year old girl named Simona. Their strange love affair is interrupted by Simona's depressed, oversexed mother Vera, who concocts a plan with Federico to kill her wheelchair-bound, reclusive husband. Simona does not take kindly to this new relationship between Federico and Vera.
L'Immoralita is a film that is difficult to pigeon hole into one 'type' of film, but suffice to say it's an entertaining and well worked thriller with enough substance to satisfy most viewers, providing they can stomach the sometimes uncomfortable tone of the movie. Almost everything about the film really is rather detestable and as such the characters are hard to care for; making watching the film akin to watching a car crash at times. The film begins with a scene that sees a man carrying the body of a dead girl before burying her, and then being pursued by a bunch of people with guns. This man turns out to be Federico; a murderer and paedophile, wanted for killing children. Wounded, he bumps into a young girl who he befriends after she offers him shelter. The girl lives with her parents; the mother, lauded as the town slut, and her dilapidated father who is rotting away in a wheelchair. The murderer and the child grow closer together despite the law being after him and the pair develops a friendship that is shattered when the mother discovers the sheltered criminal.

Ángeles y Querubines / Angels and Cherubs. 1972.
Angeles y querubines is the first feature directed by Rafael Corkidi, cinematographer of such visual masterpieces as El Topo and The Holy Mountain. This surreal Mexican fantasy shows influences of Alejandro Jodorowsky as you would expect, and also of the style of Kenneth Anger, and the darker side of Czech “fairy tale” cinema. Visuals are rich and original, the music less so but still a pleasure. Overall it’s rather mellower than the typical “head trip” film of the early ‘seventies which seemed to revel in causing shock and offence. I found it an absolute delight.
The prelude is set in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve played by the director’s infant children. It’s gender-reversed with Eve arriving first, which is probably significant. After ten minutes, just as you might be starting to seriously question what you have downloaded, we move on to the main story, introduced by a biblical quotation: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them”.
We find ourselves in a castle, or perhaps a convent judging by the number of nuns around. A gathering of the ruling family appears to be taking place. An eclectic mix of costumes suggests no particular time and place. We meet our young hero Cristian (Jorge Humberto Robles), a fine young fellow, clean, upstanding, dare I say it even virginal.
Actually it’s safest if I don’t try to set out the plot, except to say that we seem to have an allegory of a Pilgrim, or Grail Knight, who one day leaves the convent garden and meets, falls in love with, and pursues to the ends of the Earth the beautiful Angela (Helena Rojo). So are the young couple to live happily ever after? Or will our hero be condemned to an eternity of shirt-ripping Byronic frustration?
Unfortunately the picture quality is dire as you can see. I’m almost certain it’s not supposed to be that tint. And the border jumps around in a distracting way. Nevertheless this is still a must for lovers of fantasy cinema.

A ten year old girl named Angela leads her six year old sister, Ellie, through various regimens of 'purification' in an attempt to rid themselves of their evil, which she believes to be the cause of their mother's mental illness. Precocious, to say the least, Angela has visions of Lucifer coming to take her and her sister away, and one of her remedies for this is for them to remain within a circle of their dolls and toys until they see a vision of the virgin Mary come to them. But such thinking can only lead to an ending befitting of her own mental state.
